Kitchener Poppethead Reserve
It is located about 5 kilometres south of Cessnock, Poppethead Reserve is a Regional Park.The site has the historic Poppet Head of the Aberdare Central Colliery at Kitchener. The dam is also a remnant of our mining history.
There are 2 walking trails and they allow you to view picturesque sites of the dam, wildlife, trees and more. One walk is 1.2Km around the dam and the other one is 5Km.

Kitchener Poppet Head in Heritage Park
I have wanted to see this structure up close for a long time. I often drive past it. I went to the Heritage Park in Kitchener today and took all these photos. It is an amazing structure. There is a 1.2km walk around the lake at the park which I will do when I have somebody with me as it is in bushland.
Poppet heads sit over mine shafts and are used to winch ore such as coal buckets from below.
I love the rustic look.]
